In this presentation, participants will learn about all updated components in the updated NASW Code of Ethics. These focus areas include an increased awareness of technology use in social work practice, which will be discussed in case scenarios. In addition, participants will consider the updated Code of Ethics as it relates to the Iowa Code and federal law (including HIPAA and FERPA). A certificate of completion will be provided to attendees seeking Continuing Education credits (3) for attending this course.

 

PRESENTER BIO:

Stephen Cummings is a professor and Distance Education Director at the University of Iowa School of Social Work. Prior to this role, he was a hospital social worker for 10 years. His areas of interest include the use of cutting-edge technology in distance education, considerations for ethical use of technology in social work practice, and general professional development in social work.

 

Objectives:

1. Identify the key updates to the NASW Code of Ethics for 2018

2. Engage in addressing new ethics standards as they relate to practice

3. Develop understanding of competency in technology use and application to practice
