John Doershuk, State Archaeologist and Director of the University of Iowa Office of the State Archaeologist, will present for the Archaeological Institute of America Iowa Society Lecture Program.

The OSA and Iowa Archaeology: Historical Reflections and Recent Endeavors

The University of Iowa Office of the State Archaeologist (OSA) is an organized UI research unit established in 1959. Now entering its seventh decade, OSA continues to actively develop, disseminate, and preserve knowledge of Iowa's human past through archaeological research, scientific discovery, public stewardship, service, and education. While the roots of Iowa archaeology are much deeper than OSA's existence, the two have long been intertwined. This presentation will trace Iowa archaeology's deep historical underpinnings and OSA connections, including results of recent OSA activities.
