Johnson County, Iowa – The term “Community Supported Agriculture” or a “CSA” may sound a little mystifying. But getting fresh produce weekly during the growing season is easy to understand—and enjoy. That is the point of a CSA and its subscription-based model of local food distribution.

The public can learn more about CSAs and how to subscribe to one through a free, online learning session, “Got Veggies,” that will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021, via Zoom. To register, visit tinyurl.com/GOTVEGGIES2021. Nutritional information as well as a Q&A with several local farmers will also be part of the event.

The event is hosted by Johnson County local government’s Local Foods Program, Green Team and Wellness Program in conjunction with Field to Family, an area nonprofit organization that works to create a more local, healthy and sustainable food system. Speakers will include Ilsa DeWald, local foods coordinator, and Jamie Huntley, health planner, both with Johnson County; and Julia Poska, communications and outreach coordinator for Field to Family.

For more information, contact Ilsa DeWald at idewald@johnsoncountyiowa.gov or 319-356-6000.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa–sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact in advance at
