Prairie Lights Reading 8.26

Sundays this fall:
The IWP and UI MFA writing programs take over the 2nd floor of Prairie Lights – grab a glass of wine or a fancy soda and settle in for an hour of highlights from their best work!

 

Reading Aug. 26:
Darius Stewart is a second-year graduate student in the UI Nonfiction Writing Program from Knoxville, TN. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee (B.A.) and the Michener Center for Writers at the University of Texas at Austin, where he received his M.F.A. in poetry. He is the author of three poetry chapbooks, including The Ghost the Night Becomes, which won the 2013 Gertrude Press Poetry Chapbook Competition. His nonfiction and poetry have been published in Callaloo, storySouth, Appalachian Heritage, Meridian, Potomac Review, and many others. He lives in south Iowa City with his dog, Fry.
IWP 2018 Fall Residents:
Aušra Kaziliunaite (poet, performer, journalist; Lithuania) has four volumes of poetry, including the English-language collection The Moon is a Pill (2018); Menulis yra tablete, which won the 2016 Jurga Ivanauskaite Prize; her 2016 volume esu aptrupejusios sienos [I am Crumbled Walls] was shortlisted for Best Book of the Year by 15min.lt. In 2016 , Kaziliunaite was awarded the Young Artist Prize from the Lithuanian Minstry of Culture.
Umar Timol (poet, fiction writer; Mauritius) is the author of four poetry volumes, two novels, and two comic books; his poetry collection 52 Fragments pour l’aimée [52 Fragments for the Beloved] (2016) received the Poetry Prize at the Moldova Poetry Festival. Timol is a teacher, photographer, founding member of the mixed-genre journal Point Barre, and a frequent presence at poetry festivals.
Both participate in the IWP Fall Residency thanks to the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Exchange Programs of the U.S. Department of State.
