Iowa Bibliophiles "Hidden Collections: Artist Books in Spanish and South American Indigenous Languages"

Welcome to Iowa Bibliophiles!

This group is for those who love book history, book collecting, or the curious.

For our meeting in February, explore the exciting world of book arts through the lens of Julie Leonard and Karen Carcia—creators of the Book Arts Research Database.

The project began as a way to add to the bibliographic descriptions of the physical characteristics of book art materials held in the UI Special Collections including books with pop-elements, handmade paper, innovative bindings and feats of printing. Thanks to a grant from the University of Iowa International Programs, they, along with Mariana Tejeda and Camila de Urioste Laborde, will be showcasing the works in the exhibit they curated and installed in Special Collections Reading Room which features books written primarily in Spanish.

This exhibit has been made possible by a Major Projects Award from International Programs. Major Project Awards are supported by the Stanley-University of Iowa Foundation Support Organization.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa–sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact in advance at
