Training Summary
Participants will review and update their knowledge of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy in the domains of theory, assessment, intervention, and evaluation of outcomes with standardized instruments. This workshop is intended for participants seeking an intermediate to advanced level of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy training.

Learning Objectives
Participants will:
1. Learn how to conduct assessment using the Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy inspired case conceptualization model.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of new interventions, inspired from both Cognitive, Behavioral, and integrated models.
3. Learn specific core interventions, as well as general considerations for intervention including Socratic questioning and guided discovery.
4. Learn how to structure individual sessions as well as the overall course of treatment episode.
5. Learn about the importance of measuring outcomes and review tools to do so.

About the Presenter
Bernard Showers, LCSW, earned his MSW in 2010 at Shippensburg University, where he is now an Adjunct Professor. Showers also works as an Adjunct Professor for the University of Maryland School of Social Work in Baltimore, MD and with Simmons University School of Social Work in Boston, MA. Bernard is currently a doctoral student at the University of Kentucky’s Doctoral of Social Work Program.

Showers has trained aspiring and active independent practitioners at many colleges, universities, governmental agencies, and companies around the United States. In addition to Motivational Interviewing, Showers has developed several continuing education workshops in topics such as Family Involvement in Substance Use Treatment, ASAM Criteria, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and Group Therapy.
