As we await the arrival of the Anne Frank Tree, which will be planted on the University of Iowa Pentacrest on April 29, 2022, we encourage people of all ages to read the book that is at the heart of this event. Better yet—read it in community!

To provide context to your reading, we’re offering three in-person discussions at the Iowa City Public Library (123 S. Linn St., Iowa City). All of the discussions are free and open to the general public.

In this first session, Heike Kumpf, AIA, will help us better understand the spatial constraints of the annex in which Frank wrote her famous diary. This discussion is one of three that accompanies our call to Read the Diary as a Community. The March 8 discussion will also be live-streamed and recorded via ICPL’s Facebook page. No registration required.

Pick up a copy of Anne Frank’s celebrated diary and discuss it with classmates, neighbors, family, and colleagues. If you need a copy of the Diary, Prairie Lights Bookstore (15 S. Dubuque St., Iowa City) has many available for purchase.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa–sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact in advance at
