“Genetic Counseling and Public Policy: How an Idea Can Become a Law”

As integration of genomic medicine becomes integrated into routine medical care, new laws are necessary to ensure appropriate use and equitable access to genomic medicine. This presentation will describe the process of how the idea to license genetic counselors in Iowa became a state law. It will also compare and contrast the process of passing a state licensure law to advocating for a federal CMS recognition of genetic counselors law.
