Exuberant Politics
a celebration of art, activism, and political feeling around the world
“Exuberant Politics” is an international exhibition exploring how today’s artists address pressing social issues. Emphasizing playful, physical, and deeply felt forms of engagement, the works run the gamut from videos and computer games to prints, sculptures, and paintings, to music and written works. The show will open in two eastern Iowa locations the first week of March: Legion Arts in Cedar Rapids and the new Public Space One in Iowa City. As part of a year-long series exploring artistic activism, these shows feature artwork that challenge the status quo with socially-engaged videos, computer games, prints, sculptures, paintings, murals and stories. Dozens of performances and screenings, offsite and on, take place throughout March and into April.
The exhibition was curated from nearly 400 entries submitted from every continent except Antarctica. The show invites viewers to celebrate and engage with the many ways artists explore the driving issues of our times. More information and a full schedule of events is available on the project’s website:http://exuberantpolitics.art.uiowa.edu.
