Iowa Archaeology Month 2022: The 2nd Annual Archaeology Day at Calkins Nature Area
Office of the State Archaeologist (OSA) staff Cherie Haury-Artz and Veronica Mraz will identify artifacts and give presentations at the 2nd Annual Archaeology Day at Calkins Nature Area. No preregistration is required and admission is free. Food will be available for purchase on-site.
Schedule:
10-11 a.m.: Flint knapping demonstration by John Whittaker and Pat Hashman
10-11:15 a.m. and 1:30-2:30 p.m.: Have your own artifacts identified by OSA staff
10:30-11:15 a.m. and 1-1:45 p.m.: Private tours of the Ulch Collection by Jeff Ulch
11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Traditional Native American toys and games demonstration by Cherie Haury-Artz
12:30-2 p.m.: Pottery making techniques by Sarah Day
1:30-2:30 p.m.: Iowa During the Ice Age by Cherie Haury-Artz
All day activities:
- Archery and atlatl throwing
- Snacks, drinks, and social space
- Lunch vendor on site
- Open museum space to view the Ulch Collection
