The Summer Social Justice Reading Group is built so that interested participants only have to read what will be discussed in that week’s session—there is no long-standing commitment or catching-up for them to do. We encourage interested participants to join the discussion when they can! All reading material will be available through ICON at this link. Faculty\, staff\, graduate students\, and UI community members are welcome to join any of the weekly discussion sessions!\n\nThis group will discuss the various themes\, perspectives\, and questions that arise from each week's materials and connect them to larger ideas rooted in social justice. The summer of 2021 is themed as “Short Story Summer\,” where the group will be exploring different short stories and other short-form media throughout June and July. The core collection for this year is Deceit and Other Possibilities: Stories by Vanessa Hua. Selections from her book will be supported with additional readings from other anthologies.\n\nIf you have any questions\, please contact Steven Edwards (Assistant Director\, Diversity Resources\, Division of Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion) at steven-edwards@uiowa.edu and Sara Nasrollahian Mojarad (Assistant Director\, Office of Teaching\, Learning\, and Technology\, Center for Teaching) at sara-nasrollahian@uiowa.edu.\n\nIndividuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program\, please contact Steven Edwards at steven-edwards@uiowa.edu.\n\n\nhttps://events.uiowa.edu/52671 LOCATION:null\, \, \, UID:edu.uiowa.events-prod-52671 X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:
