Sundays this fall: The International Writing Program (IWP) and UI MFA writing programs take over the 2nd floor of Prairie Lights – grab a glass of wine or a fancy soda and settle in for an hour of highlights from their best work!
Reading Oct. 14:
Jorrell Watkins (Brotha Jorrell) is an educator from Richmond, VA. He earned his B.A from Hampshire College, has studied playwriting at the Voices of Our Nations (VONA) Writers' Workshop, and poetry at the 2018 VQR Writers' Conference. He served as the Director of the nationally touring Hip-hop Theater play Mixed Race Mixtape. He was a 2018 National Young Playwright in Residence at the Echo Theater Company. Currently, he is pursuing an MFA in Poetry at the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop.
IWP 2018 Fall Residents:
Haifa ABU AL-NADI
  (fiction writer, screenwriter, translator; Jordan) teaches English at the Applied Sciences University in Amman, and translates for the Kalima and Al-Qattan foundations. Author of screenplays and magazine articles, in 2012 she published the volume of stories [On the Threshold of Dreaming] and, in 2016, the collection [Propositions]. She participates in the IWP Fall Residency courtesy of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. State Department.
HUANG Chong-Kai  (fiction writer; Taiwan) is the author of four novels including   [Blue Fiction] (2014), voted one of the Ten Best Books of The Year by The China Times Book Review, and [The Contents of the Times] (2017), winner of the 2018 TIBE Book Prize for Fiction, and one of Mirror Media Review’s Ten Best Books of 2017. He is a member of [Alphabet Lab], a collective of experimental writers and critical theorists in Taiwan. Huang’s participation in the IWP Fall Residency is made possible by the Taiwan Ministry of Culture.
