TITLE:  Harnessing the Power of Lifecourse Cohorts in Cardiovascular Epidemiology

The International Childhood Cardiovascular Cohort (i3C) Consortium has leveraged the data from long-term epidemiologic cohorts from the U.S., Finland and Australia to make significant strides in our understanding of how childhood cardiovascular risk factors may predict adult cardiovascular disease several decades later. This presentation will provide an overview of some of the recent findings and emerging take-away messages for cardiovascular prevention from this Consortium.

SPEAKER:  Dr. Jessico Woo, Professor, UC Department of Pediatrics

Jessica Woo, PhD, is a Professor of Pediatrics with Tenure at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and in the Division of Biostatistics and Epidemiology at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Her primary research focuses on the causes and consequences of childhood obesity across the lifecourse, including cardiovascular and metabolic development. Dr. Woo is co-PI of the NHLBI Growth and Health Study (NGHS) Cincinnati site, and PI for the Princeton Lipid Research Study, which are two cohorts in the International Childhood Cardiovascular Cohort (i3C) Consortium. Along with her colleagues, she recently succeeded in re-contacting and re-enrolling over 1,500 of these participants from Cincinnati, and over 20,000 across the Consortium, between 2015–19. She was a lead author for the study’s primary results published in the New England Journal of Medicine, and actively participates in analyses and projects involving the i3C Consortium data.
