Engaging in Trauma Informed Emotion Regulation Strategies with Students

Description: In this session, participants will learn to effectively recognize and respond to signs of trauma in students, co-regulation strategies will be taught to support educators and school professionals in supporting students with trauma-informed strategies. The session will cover a range of strategies that support students in managing their emotions, with a particular focus on mindful breathing, grounding exercises, and movement practices that can be integrated into the classroom. It will also emphasize the importance of setting appropriate boundaries while providing emotional support. By the end of the session, participants will be equipped with tools to enhance communication, learn basic trauma-focused affects on brains and nervous systems of students, build trust, provide students with co-regulation and support the emotional well-being of trauma-affected students through a holistic approach.
Learning Goals: 1) Participants will be able to recognize, basic trauma responses of students within the classroom in relation to dysregulated classrooms. 2) Participants will be equipped to develop and model nervous system strategies for students within the school setting. 3) Participants will be able to advocate for the needs of students who have experienced trauma in the classroom and implement strategies in partnering with key stakeholders such as school mental health professionals, administration and other school staff.
