Artificial Intelligence Lightning Talks
This event, offered online via Teams, will feature several short talks (3-5 minutes) about how people at the University of Iowa are using artificial intelligence.
The talks serve as a platform for learning and innovation as artificial intelligence rapidly transforms the technological landscape.
The presenters and topics are:
- Derek Siebert, lead application developer, ITS-Custom Solutions and Integrations, on a genetic algorithm to predict NCAA March Madness
- Jennifer Deberg, user services librarian, Hardin Library for the Health Sciences, on AI in literature reviews
- Stephen Cummings, master's in social work program director and clinical associate professor, on embracing generative AI in classroom assignments
- Marissa Green-Francescon, assistant director of institutional research and assessment, on unlocking insights: rapid qualitative data analysis with Microsoft Copilot
- Spencer Owen, Rienow Hall coordinator for residence education, on using AI to create helpful documents for yourself and your staff
- Bianca Schamberger, doctoral candidate in social studies teacher education, on using AI to create critical, but non-political teaching materials in highly politicized times
The goals are to:
- Share knowledge and insights about the latest AI trends, tools, best practices, and practical uses of AI.
- Encourage collaboration and cross-pollination of ideas across campus.
- Inspire innovative applications of AI.
