Visiting Artist in Printmaking Lecture, Lynne Allen: “Real Culture, False Representations: Tattered Histories”
E125 Visual Arts Building at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.

Lynne Allen's art is a love affair with the forsaken—discarded remnants of culture like rusted bottle caps, fish hooks, lead sinkers, and aged moving blankets are transformed into iconic symbols. Navigating a world rife with threats and her reimagined histories, Allen questions the narratives crafted by victors, actively seeking and amplifying the voices of the historically marginalized. Her work embraces neglected traditions such as embroidery, beading, and porcupine quills. The subjects of her work take center stage, those whom history would rather omit—animals driven to extinction, Native traditions, the homeless, prisoners, and the myths surrounding how the West was won—all deliberately included in a narrative that challenges historical omissions and invites a more inclusive understanding of our collective past.
